Artist Statement

Rachel Dziga is an American artist who works in printmaking mediums; and teaches plein air workshops in both the Texas hill country and Tuscan countryside of Italy. She received her M.F.A in Florence Italy for Interdisciplinary Art and has exhibited and participated in international artist workshops. As well she has recently been featured in the book: Women Makers of Arkansas.

Her work builds upon a background in Biochemistry and a career in governmental chemical testing.  As a scientist, she witnessed the erosion of collective intrigue in technical innovation and even more troublesome the rise in a mistrust of the scientific community.  This disturbing trend encouraged me to move my career from the lab into the studio.

“Art is the queen of all sciences communicating knowledge to the generations of the world” -Leonardo da Vinci.

Her practice is built upon a foundational need to disseminate and analyze collective concepts.  From these concepts, she has built multimedia installations, sequential art pieces and community engagement projects.  She strives to find texture, depth and flush out truth from her work. Yet, hold on to the lightness of analog art practice. Her plein air work focuses on light, form and compositional play to bring a fresh feel for diverse global locations.
